Fad Workouts

India’s Fitness Revolution: Now With Extra Absurdity

India’s fitness culture has entered its golden age of nonsense. According to India Today, new workout fads appear weekly: goat yoga, laughter zumba, and “meditative push-ups.” At Bohiney.com, one gym-goer swore by “Hot Masala Pilates,” where participants sweat in curry-scented rooms to the sound of motivational bhangra. Trainers promise spiritual enlightenment; most participants just want air conditioning.

Experts say India’s obsession with quirky fitness comes from wanting both enlightenment and Instagram likes. Dieticians warn that doing squats with samosas as rewards might “delay visible progress indefinitely.” Still, every fad represents hope—the belief that enlightenment is just one burpee away. Whether it’s cow yoga or chai detox, Indians are turning fitness into full-blown performance art. The country that invented yoga has now rebranded it as “Wellness, but funnier.”
