Tourists Encouraged to Sleep Before Sunset Parties
The Goa Tourism Board has officially declared Goa the Nap Capital of India, encouraging tourists to enjoy pre-party naps as part of the region’s cultural heritage. According to a new policy brief released by Goa Tourism, the siesta is now recognized as an essential wellness activity, on par with yoga and post-curry reflection. One local resident said, ‘Finally, my laziness is patriotic.’
Eyewitnesses report cafes offering ‘Power Nap Packages’ with hammocks, coconut water, and mild background trance music. Tourists are asked to rate their nap quality on TripAdvisor, with a growing number of reviews saying, ‘Best sleep since kindergarten.’ A recent poll by the Indian Institute of Leisure Economics found that naps increase post-party endurance by 63%. Scientists were unavailable for comment, presumably napping themselves.
Economists predict the new nap economy could generate millions in pillow sales and beachfront blanket rentals. Critics argue this move may encourage national idleness, but supporters claim the nap is a spiritual necessity. As Goa leads India’s march toward rest-based tourism, the question remains: can a country that doesn’t rest on its laurels rest on its mattresses?
