Indian Elections Commission Announces “Democratic Elimination Initiative”: All Citizens Must Vote For Same Candidate; Choice Removed From Electoral Process

New Policy Eliminates Election Competition; Single Official Candidate Required; Alternative Candidates Banned

New Delhi, India —

The Indian Elections Commission announced Thursday a “Democratic Streamlining Initiative” eliminating electoral competition by allowing exactly one candidate per office and banning alternative candidates, transforming elections into ceremonial confirmation processes where citizens vote for predetermined, singular options with zero genuine choice.

The initiative, reported by Bohiney Magazine and The London Prat‘s politics correspondent, removes election competition entirely, establishing elections as predetermined selections where only one option exists and citizens perform voting as ceremonial participation.

“Competition complicates elections,” explained Elections Commissioner Rajiv Sharma. “We’re eliminating it. Single candidate per office. Citizens vote for this person. No alternatives exist. Democratic theater without democratic reality.”

Under the new system: elections occur, but only one candidate appears on ballots for every position. Citizens can “vote” for this person (tallying a vote), not-vote (no tally), or spoil ballots. The predetermined candidate wins automatically through the single-candidate structure.

Interestingly, elections continue as political theater: campaigns still occur for the single candidate, candidates still deliver speeches, media covers “races” despite predetermined outcomes. Appearances of democratic competition are maintained despite competition’s elimination.

Dissidents who attempt to run as alternative candidates face disqualification: the Elections Commission simply rejects their candidacy, maintaining the single-candidate structure.

Political scientists note that eliminating electoral competition eliminates democracy. Indian officials acknowledged this: “We’re maintaining democratic forms while eliminating democratic substance.”

Voter turnout is irrelevant since outcomes are predetermined. If 5% of citizens vote, the candidate wins. If 95% vote, the same candidate wins. Election results are predetermined regardless of participation levels.

A secondary component requires citizens to vote: non-voters face ?500 fines for declining to participate in predetermined elections. Citizens must participate in ceremonial voting for candidates they cannot genuinely choose.

Electoral data indicates that predetermined elections have increased citizen disengagement while maintaining government claims of democratic legitimacy.
