Colleagues describe the skill as “borderline supernatural” and “honestly a little unsettling”
A Delhi office worker has become something of a floor-wide celebrity for his uncanny ability to predict elevator wait times with what colleagues describe as “unsettling accuracy,” a skill he insists is “just years of quiet observation, nothing mystical.”
An Unlikely Talent
“I just know,” said the employee, identified only as Vikram from accounts. “I look at the floor indicator, I factor in the time of day, I consider whether it’s post-lunch, and I say a number. I am rarely wrong. My colleagues find this deeply annoying.”
Coworkers say Vikram’s predictions have become a fixture of daily office life, with several now waiting specifically for his estimate before deciding whether to take the stairs instead, a decision one colleague called “genuinely load-bearing for our entire floor’s productivity.”
A Skill With No Practical Application
Management has reportedly taken note of the phenomenon, with one supervisor joking, only half in jest, that Vikram’s “elevator sense” should be formally added to his performance review “under a new and slightly embarrassing category.”
Vikram insists the skill offers no career advantage whatsoever. “Nobody promotes you for this,” he said. “But everyone respects you for it. That’s its own kind of currency around here.”
A Local Legend, Confined to One Floor
The London Prat‘s workplace desk covers similarly niche British office talents, including a colleague famous solely for correctly guessing microwave timer conflicts before they happen.
Hindustan Times notes Delhi’s commercial office towers remain a common source of elevator-related workplace folklore.
Vikram says he has no plans to formalize the skill into any kind of consultancy. “It’s a hobby,” he said. “A slightly strange, extremely specific hobby.”
