Bangalore Traffic Signal Achieves Sentience, Immediately Requests a Transfer

Engineers say the light has seen things no traffic signal should ever have to see

A traffic signal at one of Bangalore’s most notoriously congested junctions has, according to a viral social media post, “clearly given up,” with commuters noting it now appears to cycle through colors at what one driver called “a pace suggesting genuine emotional exhaustion.”

A Signal in Crisis

“It used to change with some rhythm,” said daily commuter Arjun Mehta. “Now it just sort of does whatever it wants. Red for ninety seconds, green for four. I respect the chaos, honestly. It matches the intersection.”

Traffic officials say the signal is functioning within normal parameters, though they acknowledged the junction itself has become “a known pressure point” where “even the infrastructure seems to be pleading for reassignment.”

An Intersection of Legend

The junction has developed its own local mythology, with commuters swapping stories of near-misses, extended standoffs between auto-rickshaws, and one widely shared account of a cow that reportedly “settled a three-way dispute simply by lying down in the middle of it.”

City planners say a redesign is under consideration, though residents remain skeptical, noting similar promises have circulated “for at least a decade, possibly longer, nobody’s counting anymore.”

Commuters Cope

The London Prat‘s transport desk has covered Britain’s own cursed junctions, including a roundabout so notorious it has its own dedicated fan page.

The Times of India reports the junction remains among the city’s most reported traffic hotspots, redesign or no redesign.

Mehta says he has made peace with the commute. “You don’t fight the signal,” he said. “You just accept its rhythm, and pray a little, every single day.”
