Pune IT Employee Discovers His Standing Desk Was Never Actually Plugged In, Has Been Manually Holding It Up for Months

Colleagues say they assumed the wobble was “just part of the ergonomic design”

A Pune-based IT employee discovered this week that his adjustable standing desk has never been properly plugged into a power source, meaning every height adjustment he has made over the past several months was, in fact, achieved entirely through his own manual force.

A Discovery, Long Overdue

“I thought the motor was just weak,” said employee Nikhil Bhosale. “Every time I raised it, I’d sort of help it along with my knee. Turns out I was the motor. The entire time. I have been doing unpaid physical labor for this desk since March.”

Colleagues say Bhosale’s desk had developed a noticeable wobble that several assumed was intentional, with one nearby coworker admitting he “genuinely thought that was just how the newer desks worked, a feature, not a fault.”

An Office Investigation

Facilities staff confirmed the desk’s power cable had never been connected, a fact that went unnoticed through two office moves and, remarkably, one facilities inspection specifically covering desk equipment.

Bhosale says he has mixed feelings about the discovery. “On one hand, mildly humiliating,” he said. “On the other hand, I have accidentally maintained excellent shoulder strength for eight months, completely free of charge.”

A Lesson for the Office

The London Prat‘s workplace desk covers Britain’s own office equipment mishaps, including a London firm that discovered its “smart” thermostat had been unplugged for a full year.

Deccan Herald notes Pune’s IT sector continues to expand rapidly, office furniture mishaps notwithstanding.

Bhosale says the desk has since been properly plugged in. “It’s smoother now,” he admitted. “Honestly, a little disappointing. I miss the workout.”
