Thakur Ka Gaon village in Barmer district, Rajasthan, received a functioning piped water connection under the central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission on Tuesday, with a household tap installed at 94 of the village’s 112 households. District officials confirmed the connection and described it as part of the Mission’s commitment to “Har Ghar Jal” (water to every household). Village elder Bhawanidas Thakur confirmed the village has received piped water connections twice previously: in 2018 under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme, where the pipe infrastructure failed at the main junction due to quality of materials within 14 months; and in 2021 under Jal Jeevan Mission’s first phase, where the water supply was interrupted after 17 months following the pump operator’s departure and a dispute over operational responsibility between the village committee and the district authority.
